Go Digit IPO: The Rs 2,615-crore initial public offer (IPO) of Go Digit Insurance opened for subscription on Wednesday, May 15.

The offer, with a price band of Rs 258 to Rs 272 per equity share, will close for subscription on Friday, May 17, 2024.

The IPO of the Bengaluru-based insurance firm is a book-built issue, which is a combination of a fresh issue of 41.4 million shares, worth Rs 1,125.00 crore, and an offer for sale (OFS) of 54.8 million shares aggregating to Rs 1,489.65 crore.

The insurance company’s issue was subscribed 24 percent till 2 PM on day 1 of the offer. While the retail portion was fully subscribed at 1.09x, the portion reserved for NIIs saw a subscription of 16 percent.

Ahead of the IPO, Go Digit Insurance raised Rs 1,176.59 crore from anchor investors on May 14, 2024.

According to the company’s exchange filing, it allocated 43.25 million equity shares to anchor investors for Rs 272 per share.

Among the marquee investors, Fidelity Investment Trust bagged the maximum allotment of 7.95 percent. Besides, Bay Pond Partners L.P., Goldman Sachs, Abu Dhabi Investment Authority (ADIA), Schroder International, East Spring Investments India, and Custody Bank of Japan were some of the prominent foreign investors.

Domestically, SBI Mutual Fund, ICICI Prudential Mutual Fund, Axis Mutual Fund, Mirae Asset Mutual Fund, HDFC Life Insurance, ITPL Invesco India Mutual Fund, Tata Mutual Fund, Volrado Venture Partners Fund, Motilal Oswal Mutual Fund, Edelweiss Trusteeship Co Ltd AC, Max Life Insurance, Tata AIA Life Insurance Company, Bajaj Allianz Life Insurance Company, and Morgan Stanley Asia (Singapore) PTE ODI picked stake in Go Digit IPO as anchor investors.

Go Digit is a Bengaluru-based full-stack digital insurance company offering motor, health, travel, property, marine, liability and other insurance products.

The company provides customized insurance policies and has launched a total of 74 active products across all its business lines so far.

The company is backed by Indian cricketer Virat Kohli (holding roughly 266,667 shares), and actor and producer Anushka Sharma (having around 66,667 shares).

Shares of Vedanta hit a 14-year high of Rs 438.30, surging 6 percent on the BSE in Tuesday’s intra-day trade amid heavy volumes after the company said its board will meet on Thursday, May 16 to consider a fundraising plan. The board will also consider the first interim dividend on equity shares, if any, for the financial year 2024-25.

Currently, Vedanta is trading at its highest level since May 2010. The stock had hit a record high of Rs 494.30 on April 8, 2010. In the past two months, the market price of Vedanta has appreciated by 75 percent.

In an exchange filing, the company said the board will deliberate on various fundraising strategies, including the issuance of equity shares or other convertible securities.

Earlier this month, the Vedanta Group’s chairman Anil Agarwal said the group is aiming to invest $20 billion across all its businesses in India over the next four years. The investments will be focused on technology, electronics, and glass businesses apart from the other activities that the group is engaged in, PTI reported quoting Agarwal.

Vedanta, a subsidiary of Vedanta Resources, is one of the world’s leading natural resources companies spanning across India, South Africa, Namibia, Liberia, UAE, Korea, Taiwan, and Japan with significant operations in Oil & Gas, Zinc, Lead, Silver, Copper, Iron Ore, Steel, Nickel, Aluminium, Power & Glass Substrate and foraying into electronics and display glass manufacturing.

Vedanta’s consolidated operating profitability (earnings before interest, tax, depreciation, and amortization [Ebitda]) for FY24 is expected to be around Rs 34,500 crore (~Rs 35,250 crore in fiscal 2023). This will be supported by reduced cost pressure and healthy operating rates across key business segments, along with recent gains from the arbitration award in the oil and gas business, despite commodity prices remaining modest and slower-than-expected progress on the planned capital expenditure (capex) in the aluminum business.

In the financial year 2023-24 (FY24), Vedanta reported the second highest-ever annual revenue of Rs 1.42 trillion and EBITDA of Rs 36,455 crore with EBITDA margin of 30 percent despite moderate commodity cycle, purely driven by total cost optimization to the tune of about Rs 10,000 crore year-on-year.

With the recent surge in commodity prices, particularly aluminum, zinc, and silver, the company said it is going to unlock tremendous value. “Our low cost and world-class assets across businesses, coupled with the strong financial position and commitment to ESG, position us perfectly to capitalize on this opportunity from rising demand and unlock exceptional growth for all of our stakeholders,” the company’s management said in its earnings call.

For Q1FY25, analysts at Centrum Broking expect a sharp increase in commodity prices to aid strong growth in the zinc and aluminum segment driving overall earnings growth. Vedanta is set to level up across businesses through capacity expansion and cost savings through backward integration shall drive margin improvement and earnings growth.

The brokerage firm expects zinc and aluminum (73 percent of EBITDA) to grow by 18 percent and 30 percent CAGR over FY24-26. Despite a huge dividend payout of Rs 45/share each for a capex outlay of ~$2 billion each in FY25 and FY26, the brokerage firm expects strong earnings visibility to help generate strong FCF to deleverage net debt position by ~$1.4 billion. The brokerage firm revised the rating to ‘buy’ from ‘hold’ with a target price of Rs 438 per share.

Meanwhile, Vedanta reported muted earnings performance in the March quarter (Q4FY24), majorly due to a fall in the aluminum and zinc segments. However, aluminum and zinc have recorded a fall in CoP for the 7th and 5th consecutive quarters, respectively.

Further, the net debt/EBITDA has improved sequentially. The management is focusing on strategic deleveraging techniques, capacity expansion plans, and further cost reduction to enhance efficiency. Analysts at Geojit Financial Services believe these factors should boost the company’s performance in the near term. The stock is currently trading above the brokerage firm’s target price of Rs 421 per share.

Bitcoin was perched at a two-year peak on Tuesday, breaking above $68,600 and stalking the all-time high as money keeps rushing into the largest cryptocurrency by market value.

Bitcoin has gained 50 percent this year and most of the rise has come in the last few weeks when inflows into U.S.-listed bitcoin funds have surged.

On Tuesday, it was at $68,500 in Asian hours, reaching a session high of $68,828, a whisker away from the all-time peak of $68,999.99 set in November 2021.

Spot bitcoin exchange-traded funds were approved in the United States earlier this year. Their launch opened the way for new large investors and has re-ignited enthusiasm and momentum reminiscent of the run-up to record levels in 2021.

“It’s crypto mania 4.0, and I think if we continue to see fairly low bond and rate volatility, it could keep going.

There’s definitely something of an irrational behavior creeping into the market,” said Kyle Rodda, senior markets analyst at Capital.com.

Net flows into the 10 largest U.S. spot bitcoin funds reached $2.17 billion in the week to March 1, with more than half of that going into BlackRock’s iShares Bitcoin Trust, according to LSEG data.

“The appetite to gain exposure to Bitcoin is reaching insatiable levels,” said Tony Sycamore, a market analyst at IG.

“While Bitcoin overbought in the short term, the move is far from done, and dips will be well supported with a move towards $80,000 not out of the question.”

The rally has come in tandem with records tumbling on stock indexes from Japan’s Nikkei to the S&P 500 and tech-heavy Nasdaq and with volatility gauges in equities and foreign exchange turning lower.

Smaller rival ether has hitched a ride on speculation that it too may soon have exchange-traded funds driving inflows and is up over 50 percent for the year and was last at $3,649.

A regulatory filing on Monday showed that the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission has further delayed its decision on an application by asset manager BlackRock for its spot Ethereum exchange-traded fund.

Elsewhere, the number of dollar-pegged stablecoins issued by Tether has crossed $100 billion, the crypto company said on its website on Monday. Tether issues a stablecoin designed to maintain a constant value of $1.
