Somebody has to pay for them, and it often ends up being the consumer,\u201d Powell warned.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<p>Despite <strong>strong recent data<\/strong> \u2014 like 139,000 jobs added in May, stable unemployment at 4.2%, and only a slight inflation uptick \u2014 Powell made it clear that this could just be the calm before the storm. Why? Because tariffs don\u2019t hit overnight.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p>\u201cRetailers are still selling goods they imported months ago, before tariffs were imposed. But as that pipeline clears, we\u2019ll start seeing the real cost show up on shelves,\u201d he explained.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">\ud83d\udcc9 Stagflation Worries Are Creeping In<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Powell and his team aren\u2019t seeing immediate signs of a slowdown, but growth is expected to taper \u2014 possibly paving the way for <strong>stagflation<\/strong>, the dreaded mix of rising prices and weaker growth.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In fact, the Fed just raised its <strong>inflation forecast for 2025<\/strong> to over 3% (up from 2.8%), and lowered its <strong>growth outlook<\/strong> to 1.4% (down from 1.7%).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p>Is \u201cI Got Stagflation on My Mind\u201d the new summer anthem on Wall Street?<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">\ud83d\udcca Markets React Cautiously<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>U.S. stock markets were flat:<br>S&amp;P 500 edged down 0.03%, the Dow dropped 0.1%, while the Nasdaq ticked up 0.13%.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>In Asia, markets slid \u2014 Hong Kong\u2019s Hang Seng Index dropped 2%, while Japan&#8217;s Nippon Steel rallied on its U.S. Steel acquisition.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">\ud83d\uddfa\ufe0f Geopolitics in Focus: Iran, Israel &amp; India<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>As tensions between <strong>Israel and Iran<\/strong> rise, Israeli President Isaac Herzog said regime change is not an \u201cofficial objective,\u201d but hinted it could bring peace. Meanwhile, Trump met his national security team again but said <strong>no decision had been made<\/strong> on striking Iran.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>On another front, Trump had a tense call with <strong>India\u2019s Prime Minister Narendra Modi<\/strong>, who pushed back hard against Trump\u2019s claim of U.S. involvement in the India-Pakistan ceasefire.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p>\u201cIndia does not and will never accept mediation,\u201d said India\u2019s Foreign Secretary.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">\ud83c\udf0d Emerging Markets: A Silver Lining?<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Despite Trump\u2019s tariff threats to countries like <strong>India and Vietnam<\/strong>, institutional investors are warming up to <strong>emerging markets<\/strong> again. Bank of America\u2019s latest Fund Manager Survey shows growing interest \u2014 possibly a sign of longer-term optimism beyond the current noise.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">\ud83e\udded Bottom Line<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>As summer heats up, so does economic uncertainty.
