The brokerage expressed concerns over BSE\u2019s shrinking market share due to the revised expiry calendar.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p>\u201cWe estimate BSE\u2019s market share could drop to <strong>18\u201319%<\/strong> from <strong>22.6% in May 2025<\/strong>,\u201d said Motilal Oswal, citing recent trends and data from the derivatives market post the March 2025 F&amp;O regulation changes.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<p>According to their data:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>On <strong>Wednesday and Thursday<\/strong> (influenced by Nifty expiry), BSE\u2019s market share averaged around <strong>8%<\/strong>.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>On <strong>Friday, Monday, and Tuesday<\/strong>, its premium turnover market share was higher: <strong>21%<\/strong>, <strong>24%<\/strong>, and <strong>38%<\/strong>, respectively.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>BSE CEO Defends Thursday Expiry<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>BSE MD &amp; CEO <strong>Sundararaman Ramamurthy<\/strong> clarified that the decision to shift to Thursday expiry was taken in the best interest of market participants, especially with <strong>NSE requesting Tuesday<\/strong>. He highlighted that Thursday aligns with <strong>global trading algorithms<\/strong> and allows investors more time during the week to structure their strategies.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p>\u201cThursday expiry has supported market growth historically and fits better with the weekly trading rhythm,\u201d Ramamurthy added.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>What Happens Next?<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>The expiry change will apply only to <strong>contracts expiring after September 1, 2025<\/strong>. Existing contracts, including long-dated index options, will be adjusted accordingly. Exchanges will release detailed circulars soon to guide market participants through the transition.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>SEBI also reiterated that <strong>exchanges must seek prior approval<\/strong> before introducing or modifying contract expiry or settlement days.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Strong Q4 Performance by BSE<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Despite the regulatory overhang, <strong>BSE delivered a robust Q4 FY25 performance<\/strong>:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Net Profit<\/strong>: \u20b9494 crore (vs. \u20b9107 crore YoY) \u2013 a <strong>5x jump<\/strong><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Revenue<\/strong>: \u20b9846.6 crore \u2013 up <strong>75% YoY<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>The board also declared a <strong>\u20b923 per share dividend<\/strong>, including a <strong>\u20b95 special dividend<\/strong>.
