The decline was primarily driven by <strong>a drop in imports<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The figure also came in <strong>lower than the $25 billion estimate<\/strong> projected by economists in a <strong>Reuters poll<\/strong>, offering a positive surprise for markets.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Export and Import Trends<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Merchandise exports<\/strong> fell <strong>2.2% year-on-year<\/strong> to <strong>$38.73 billion<\/strong><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Imports<\/strong> dipped <strong>1.76%<\/strong> to <strong>$60.61 billion<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>On the services front, <strong>India posted an estimated surplus of $14.65 billion<\/strong> in May:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Services exports<\/strong> stood at <strong>$32.39 billion<\/strong><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Services imports<\/strong> rose to <strong>$17.14 billion<\/strong>, according to Trade Secretary <strong>Sunil Barthwal<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Strong Growth in Electronics, Chemicals &amp; Pharma<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Despite the overall export dip, some categories posted strong growth:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Electronic goods<\/strong>, including <strong>mobile phones<\/strong>, surged <strong>54% year-on-year<\/strong><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Chemical exports<\/strong> grew <strong>16%<\/strong><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Pharmaceutical shipments<\/strong> rose <strong>7.38%<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Exports to US Remain Resilient Despite Tariff Hikes<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>India\u2019s <strong>exports to the United States rose to $17.25 billion<\/strong> during <strong>April-May 2025<\/strong>, compared to <strong>$14.17 billion<\/strong> in the same period last year.
