{"id":3829,"date":"2025-03-11T16:25:09","date_gmt":"2025-03-11T10:55:09","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.eqwires.com\/tutorials\/?p=3829"},"modified":"2025-03-11T16:25:11","modified_gmt":"2025-03-11T10:55:11","slug":"i-am-pessimistic-zohos-sridhar-vembu-flags-6-point-concern-on-software-job-market-ahead-of-ai-takeover","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.eqwires.com\/tutorials\/i-am-pessimistic-zohos-sridhar-vembu-flags-6-point-concern-on-software-job-market-ahead-of-ai-takeover\/","title":{"rendered":"\u2018I am pessimistic\u2026\u2019: Zoho\u2019s Sridhar Vembu flags 6 point concern on software job market ahead of AI takeover"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p id=\"0\">Cloud-based software services major Zoho Corporation&#8217;s co-founder Sridhar Vembu, on Tuesday, March 11, raised his concerns about the jobs in the software industry ahead of the upcoming artificial intelligence (AI) revolution, according to his post on the social media platform X.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p id=\"0\">Citing reasons ranging from \u201cmassive over-capacity\u201d, smaller budget crisis for Indian\u00a0banking\u00a0clients, and not removing people with inefficiencies, Sridhar Vembu highlighted his stance of pessimism for the software job market before the AI takeover.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p id=\"0\">\u201cThat is why I am pessimistic about the software job market, even before accounting for AI,\u201d said\u00a0Sridhar Vembu\u00a0in his social media post on the platform X.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p id=\"0\">Over-capacity concerns<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p id=\"0\">The 57-year-old co-founder focused on a few key concerns looming over the software job market after spending nearly 30 years in the industry and formerly being the CEO of\u00a0Zoho Corp.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p id=\"0\">Sridhar Vembu highlighted the current situation of a \u201cmassive over-capacity\u201d which has steadily developed in the software companies due to an influx of venture capitalist (VCs), private equity (PE) investors and Indian stock market (IPO) money.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Vembu even highlighted the floods of money into the\u00a0IT sector, which were unleashed due to the global pandemic, but those reserves are gone as of the current market.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p id=\"0\">\u201cThose floods are now history and we have a serious drought,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p id=\"0\"><strong>FOMO concerns<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The former CEO also focused on the second aspect, i.e., the rising budgets of the\u00a0IT firms\u00a0and their CIOs or Board members over the emotion of not \u201clagging\u201d behind their competitors.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cSoftware vendors applied liberal doses of marketing spending to spread Fear (of missing out) and Uncertainty (&#8216;tech is changing, you need us&#8217;) and Doubt (&#8216;are you confused? trust us&#8217;) among corporate customers and the result was ever growing IT spending,\u201d said Vembu in his post on X.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Vembu related this with the Western nations and how they have \u201clayers and layers of duplicated IT systems\u201d for which they spend a lot of money to make them work together.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This move contributes to the cost of operations, and these huge \u201cinefficient\u201d IT systems tend to become a permanent resource for which the firms have to spend more human resources and\u00a0money.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Transferring Inefficiency to India<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>According to Vembu&#8217;s post, IT majors in Western nations have solved their \u201cinefficiency\u201d problem. They started outsourcing or transferring those inefficiencies to\u00a0IT services\u00a0firms in India, and by the time they arrived, the inefficiencies would multiply 3 to 4 times.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThat \u2018multiplied inefficiency\u2019 happened because IT budgets were kept fixed in dollar terms, and more people got hired in India to \u2018get more done\u2019,\u201d said Vembu in his post.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Vembu also stated that as a result of this, the large number of IT jobs in the nation became dependent on those \u201coriginal inefficiencies and the multiplied inefficiencies.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Banks&#8217; spending budget<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The\u00a0Zoho co-founder\u00a0said that banks and financial institutions in India spend far less than those in the United States. This constraint of not having a huge budget to spend made the firms \u201chighly efficient\u201d and equipped to battle the foreign competition.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cIndian firms did not have the budgets to splurge!
